In order for a course to qualify as genuine WSIB-approved Basic (Emergency) First Aid with CPR AED Level C training in Ontario, it needs to meet a few criteria:

Which Level Does Your Workplace Need?
Basic (Emergency) First Aid with CPR AED Level C and Intermediate (Standard) First Aid with CPR AED Level C are the two workplace first-aid levels recognized under Ontario’s WSIB requirements. BLS is a separate training option focused on Basic Life Support skills rather than workplace first-aid requirements.

The “5 or fewer” and “6 or more” figures above are legal thresholds under Regulation 1101. They are separate from Heart Starters Inc.’s minimum training group size of 10. WSIB requirements can vary based on workplace circumstances, so the appropriate first-aid level should be determined from your specific workplace setup and staffing. BLS should not be treated as a substitute for the applicable WSIB workplace first-aid certification.

What’s Covered in Basic (Emergency) First Aid with CPR AED Level C
This course is intentionally introductory, designed for lower-hazard environments such as retail counters, small offices, and hospitality settings, where the risk profile doesn’t call for the full scope of the Intermediate level.
Training covers primary assessment of an injured or ill person, CPR and AED use for adults, choking response, control of severe bleeding, and how to respond to shock, burns, and common workplace injuries. CPR AED Level C is built directly into the course, so you’re not booking two separate certifications. First aid and CPR are covered in the same session and on the same certificate.
It’s a practical course, not a lecture. Expect hands-on scenario practice and a skills check at the end.
